Story

The story

At his wedding to Lumi White, a lottery is held, and her best friend Sirius Lynch wins the couple's new house. Lumi agrees at once, and the game goes on: his wedding ring, his grandfather's pendant and even his necktie are handed to her friends and family, who tear the clothes off his back while the guests laugh. When he calls the wedding off, Sirius smashes the pendant, his grandfather's only keepsake, and Lumi sides with Sirius, demanding an apology.

Fed up with years of pranks carried out by Sirius, Zac White and Carl Singer with Lumi's silent blessing, he walks out of the hall and accepts a scholarship to finish his masters abroad, cutting ties with all of them.

Then Zac sends him a video of Lumi, badly hurt in a car crash, and begs him to pay her medical bills.

Opening excerpt

I quickly thought I should refuse, but Lumi agreed to it right away. "Winner's keepers."

I fought against my rage, thinking this could wait until the wedding was over.
