Story
The story
On Christmas Day, Blake's father Edward Morgan arrives at the law firm of Blake's wife, Sophia Walker, clutching a crumpled contract. He has lost 30 thousand dollars in retirement savings to a scam over a burial plot and begs her, a contract lawyer, to look it over. Sophia sweeps the document to the floor, refusing to waste billable hours on it, while her desk holds a lengthy brief she has drafted to defend Ethan Cole, her childhood sweetheart, against an assault charge.
When Ethan calls, Sophia's coldness melts into tenderness, and Blake slides off his wedding ring. Later, Ethan lounges in Sophia's jacket and mocks the matter of the lost money, while Sophia orders Blake to put the ring back on and stop his childish stunts.
Blake throws the ring away, then finds the joint account emptied of 500 thousand dollars, transferred to Ethan. Sophia admits she lent it so the victim will settle.
