Story

The story

Victoria has been married to Declan for three years, playing the perfect wife while he plays the devoted husband. To the world they are the model couple, and Victoria believes she married for love. Then, at a private gala, she overhears Declan admit that his heart has only ever belonged to Sophia, her best friend of twelve years, and that Victoria was merely a stepping stone to get closer to her.

Victoria walks away without confronting him, and the silence between them grows. When Sophia returns from abroad, Declan offers her the downtown condo he and Victoria had bought for their future child, serves her first at dinner, and leaves Victoria to take a cab home. His late nights and the unfamiliar perfume on his jacket tell her the rest.

Now, at her studio, her assistant holds out a phone with a photo that is crystal clear.

Opening excerpt

My husband Declan and I were married for three years. At home, I was the perfect wife who cooked and cared for him. In public, he was the devoted husband who never strayed. To the world, we were the model couple.

Then came the night of a private gala. He got drunk and called me to pick him up.
