Story
The story
For thirty years, Stella and Thomas Sterling built a childfree marriage on a promise made before their wedding. Now, newly retired and nearing sixty, they share a penthouse and a lifetime of savings — until a twenty-eight-year-old stranger named Liam arrives at their door, calling Thomas "Dad." The law has just begun granting illegitimate children inheritance rights, and Liam's timing is no accident. He wants to move in, and Thomas, stammering apologies about a drunken mistake in his youth, will not turn his own blood away.
When Stella refuses to accept the boy, Thomas plays his trump card: if she had a secret child of her own, she could bring them home to inherit alongside Liam. He is certain she cannot — they were never apart for more than a year in three decades. But Stella has secrets of her own, and his smug certainty may be the last mistake he makes.
As Liam's hostility grows and Thomas flaunts the son he swore he never wanted, Stella must decide how to protect the life she built — without handing half of it to the people who betrayed her.
