No Old Love on the Other Side

Wyatt slides divorce papers across the table to his wife, telling her to sign them for show, to keep his college girlfriend Sadie happy. She signs quietly, and his friends wager that within a month she will sob her way through City Hall and still obey him.

She grew up beside Wyatt, married him three years ago, and has long suffered from selective mutism. Now she answers a message from Sebastian, a fellow patient she met in an online support group, who asks her to marry him. She says yes, blocks Sadie, and books a flight to Paris, while Wyatt plans their third-anniversary trip and a thirty-day cooling-off period before the divorce is final.

As Wyatt bets his friends on her obedience, she quietly begins the month Sebastian mapped out for her, one restaurant at a time.
