Story
The story
For eight years, Harper has believed in a long-distance engagement to Rhys Ashworth, a celebrated curator in London whose grand romantic gestures never failed. This Christmas, his silence sends her across the world to surprise him — only to find him beneath a snow-dusted tree, kissing a young woman named Gen.
Rhys tells Gen he ended his engagement for her and has been in London with her for six years. Gen is his student at the Academy, and she speaks of their wedding. When Harper arrives at his door, a rumpled silk teddy lies on the sofa and Gen emerges from the bedroom; Rhys calls her a student who needed a place to stay. He cooks, cleans, and drives Gen to class — the life Harper waited eight years for, given to someone else.
Harper rides along to the campus, holding tight to the man who has been hiding the truth.
Opening excerpt
Christmas Eve. Downstairs in the office, nearly half the team had fresh bouquets delivered from their boyfriends.
Tessa, my team lead and closest work friend, nudged me with her elbow.
“Harper’s man is an actual Art Curator and Rhodes Scholar, not some corporate schmuck like the rest of ours. He knows romance better than anyone, I guarantee it.”
