Story

The story

For five years, Evelyn stood beside Liam Sterling as his assistant coach, from unknown rookie to the media's "God of the Ice." He promised that the moment he secured a Grand Slam, he would retire and marry her. But the last medal never came, and the engagement was delayed again and again.

On the day of his final race, Evelyn goes to the locker room to swap his skate blades and hears Liam with Mia Foster in a stall, trading kisses for a promise that he will lose this race too. The spare blade cuts her palm as she walks out. Liam finishes fourth, missing bronze by 0.1 seconds, then turns on her when she cancels the wedding.

When the bronze medalist thanks Liam for "gifting" him the race, his panic says everything. Evelyn leaves for the Sterling family estate to return the gold engagement plaque, and overhears his parents refuse to accept any other daughter-in-law. Then Liam speaks: Mia is pregnant.

Opening excerpt

As his assistant coach, I had been by his side from his days as an unknown rookie to his meteoric rise to superstardom.

He once promised me that the moment he secured a Grand Slam, he would retire and we would finally get married.

But five years passed. He remained one medal short, and our engagement was delayed over and over again.

Until his very last race before retirement.
