Story

The story

For three years, Daisy Wells has been with Adam Holloway, the man of her dreams, and they were beginning to talk about rings. Then she wakes one morning trapped in the body of her cousin, Celeste Wells, while Celeste walks around wearing Daisy's skin and slips into Daisy's place beside Adam.

Celeste warns her that telling Adam the truth would only sound like a breakdown, and calls the swap a trade: her body for a few days, Daisy's Adam for a while. At a family holiday at a thermal resort, Daisy can only watch as Celeste, in her body, coaxes and clings to Adam, while Gale Abbott, a neighbor of Celeste's, watches with his own quiet unhappiness.

Adam's small kindnesses land on the wrong woman, and Gale seems to notice that something about the sisters is off. Trapped in a borrowed skin, Daisy has no way to prove who she is.

In the dead of night, my Adam, who should have been with my cousin—in my body—suddenly knocked and squeezed his way into the room, pulling me into a hug, ready to kiss me senseless.

“Celeste…”
