I Failed My MIL's Test and Walked Away

Mandy arrives at the Yarrow family home to meet her future in-laws, only to be ambushed by a premarital test she never agreed to take. Her future mother-in-law, Joana Carrell, announces that Mandy scored just 30 points, deducting marks for a crooked doorstop, an unemptied trash can, and unwashed dishes. When Mandy looks to her boyfriend, Anthony Yarrow, for support, he lowers his head and says nothing.

As Joana lectures her about her future duties as a housekeeper, Mandy's fury builds. She recalls how she used her connections to help Anthony's father, Andrew Yarrow, find easy work, and to secure steady employment and school placements for his sister Megan Yarrow's family. Yet Megan offers her only a condescending "second chance" to pass the test. When Anthony accuses Mandy of being bitter about the absence of a bride price, she realizes how little her years of sacrifice meant to him.

Refusing to become a free housekeeper, Mandy calls off the marriage. But as she tries to leave, Joana seizes her arm, shrieking that she cannot go.
