The Secret We Kept

For five years, Gemma Calloway has kept her relationship with Diego Barrett a secret. When Diego goes on a blind date behind her back, she catches him in the act but says nothing, replying only that she understands. She is there for the same reason: her mother, Isabel Calloway, pressured her into meeting a man named Kaleb Duffy, who seems perfect on paper but leaves her cold.

Outside the restaurant, Gemma sees Diego walking through the snow with Ellie Brooks, the scarf she knitted for him wrapped around the other woman's neck. In the car, Diego's jealousy flares when she admits she was on a blind date, and his kiss turns violent until she bites him and walks away into the cold.
