Story

The story

A man discovers a confession post online in which his best friend describes secretly fathering a child with his wife while he endured years of infertility treatment. The photo attached to the post shows the man's own wife in their kitchen, wearing a bracelet he gave her. He realizes his best friend, Keith Jowett, and his wife, Vera Skudder, have deceived him for years, and that the daughter he has raised, Maya, is not his own.

Rather than confront them, he stays silent and begins gathering evidence, collecting hair samples for a paternity test while continuing to play the devoted husband. When Keith arrives for dinner, the tension between the three of them becomes unbearable as he waits to expose the truth.

Opening excerpt

A top-rated comment caught my eye while I was browsing an online confession thread.

[I have a confession. My best friend and his wife tried everything to have a baby. After countless medical visits, they discovered the fertility issue was with him.]

[I felt so sorry for him that whenever he was away on business trips or at medical appointments, I secretly helped his wife try to conceive.]
