Story

The story

A sudden mudslide strands Cara and her department director Bowen on a remote mountain road during a business trip, forcing them to shelter in a rest stop parking lot as the storm cuts the power and the cell towers. When a single bar of service finally returns, her boyfriend Chad's messages flood in — not asking if she is safe, but accusing her of cheating with the male boss trapped beside her. His jealous rage, once mistaken for passionate love, has followed her for years, and now it erupts in a FaceTime call he ends by blocking her. Trapped in the dark with a man she barely knows, Cara must face the truth about the control she has been living under.

Opening excerpt

Why aren’t you answering?

What the hell are you doing?

You out of town or just in another guy’s bed? You enjoying it too much to text back?
