The Love Letter I Threw Away

Thomas has spent fifty years beside Rae, giving up Columbia and his dream of polar research for a quiet life of cooking, laundry and three children. Only at her deathbed does Rae confess that the love letter he found in high school was meant for Wright, the golden boy she never dared cage. She swears she would marry Thomas again in the next life. He would not.

When he opens his eyes, he is back in senior year. The dusty pink envelope waits in his desk drawer, and this time he drops it into the recycling bin. Rae pales, glances at Wright, then silently takes the seat beside him instead. Thomas turns to his AP Calculus prep and, for the first time, walks past her at the school gates.

He begins researching Columbia's freshman programs, but Rae still waits by her bicycle, still runs to Wright the moment he stumbles. Thomas must decide how far he will go to reclaim the future he once surrendered.
