His Love Letters Were Lies

Yvonne Zimmer has been married to Daniel Hampton for ten years, half of them spent apart: she returned to Chanaea to care for her ill mother while he stayed in Miston for work, flying back weekly with romantic messages written on each ticket. Before the holidays she buys two tickets and travels with their son Edward to surprise him, only to see Daniel waltzing under a street lamp with another woman, then kissing her in the snow. Edward runs to them calling the woman Mommy Jessica, and Daniel's face drains of colour when he meets Yvonne's eyes.

A hospital call tells her that her mother has unplugged her ventilator, and Yvonne flies home to sign the notice of death, certain her mother ended her life to free her. Daniel insists she never doubt his love, but she asks for a divorce. Edward's urgent call about Mommy Jessica's fever, a video of Daniel adjusting that woman's veil, and the handmade giraffe plushie hanging on her bag confirm a long deception. Yvonne must decide what remains of a family she tried to hold together.
