Betrayed Once, Destroyed Again

On her wedding day, Helena's groom, Henry Tate, announces before the guests that he has slept with Rebecca Litt, displaying intimate photos on the banquet screen. He calls it revenge against Yves Sullivan, the fiance who once betrayed her with Rebecca, the student she supported. When Helena weeps, Henry reveals he made a bet with Rebecca about whether she would cry or make a fuss.

Helena recalls how Henry once rescued her from that earlier betrayal, carrying her through the rain and vowing to raise another man's child. Now, backstage, she slaps him, and he coldly asks why she cannot accept his single infidelity. At home, surrounded by gifts he once gathered for her, she calls him, only to hear Rebecca mocking her on the line. Helena demands a divorce; Henry returns with Rebecca and pushes her out into the pouring rain.

Twelve weeks pregnant, Helena stands drenched, facing the same betrayal a second time.
