Story

The story

A week before her due date, Meryl Stewart is struck by a truck and left bleeding in the street. She calls her husband, Wallace Brown, begging him to save their unborn child, but he coldly accuses her of staging a stunt on Beth's eighteenth birthday. Her son, Daniel Brown, echoes the accusation before Wallace hangs up. By the time help arrives, the baby is lost.

As Meryl lies in the hospital, a message from her sister, Beth Stewart, reveals that the crash was no accident. Beth wanted her dead. Yet Meryl's mother, Jennifer Hill, and Wallace only demand that she come home, apologize to Beth, and stop causing trouble. Wallace refuses to believe the baby is gone.

Meryl resolves to leave the family that abandoned her, but now they are the ones begging her to stay.
