Story

The story

On a flight back to New York, Nora finds an anonymous post about a woman who has fallen for her sister's fiancé, and a reply from a burner account whose profile picture is the cat her boyfriend Vincent gave her. The poster's only video shows a woman watering a dying plant, wearing the silver bracelet her mother left for Nora and her sister Clara.

Vincent and Clara meet her at the airport. He hands her white roses, Clara's favorite, though he has always remembered Nora's baby's breath. In the car, the perfume and warmth are Clara's, and Vincent's eyes keep drifting to her in the rearview mirror. The post keeps updating, telling how Clara once called him on a stormy night and he came soaked to her door.

Nora remembers the vow Vincent once made never to betray her, and the sister who raised her. Caught between them, she must decide what to do.

Opening excerpt

【What should I do if I’ve fallen in love with my sister’s fiancé?】

I came across an Instagram post from an account with a default profile picture on my flight back to New York.

The comments were brutal, each one harsher than the last.

Then I saw a reply from a burner account:

【Don’t blame her. I was the one who led her on.】

【She acts tough, but she’s more fragile than anyone. I just can’t help feeling sorry for her.】

My finger froze on the screen, because the profile picture on that account was the cat my boyfriend, Vincent, had given me.
