Story

The story

At his younger brother Samuel Stone's eighteenth birthday dinner in the city's most expensive revolving restaurant, a waiter named Rowan Lane accidentally splashes water on Samuel's limited-edition sneakers. Samuel erupts, demanding Rowan kneel and lick the shoes clean, while his parents back him up and threaten the manager, Mr. Wade, with the loss of Stone Group's business.

Jeremiah Stone has lived this before. In his last life he stepped in, was filmed, and was praised online while Samuel was torn apart; Samuel later shoved him off a thirty-story rooftop to his death. Now Jeremiah is back at that same table, and he knows the waiter being humiliated is the missing only son of the city's richest man.

This time Jeremiah stays silent, letting the scene unfold, aware that the insults Samuel dishes out will return as revenge.

Opening excerpt

But all because a waiter accidentally splashes a bit of water on the edge of his sneakers, my brother, Samuel Stone, blows up on the spot.

"Do you have any idea how rare these are? They're limited-edition worldwide! Not even your life is worth as much as them!"

The waiter, Rowan Lane, shakes in fright and bows his head, apologizing profusely.

But Samuel just keeps going and makes a mountain out of a molehill. He even orders Rowan to get on his knees and lick his shoes clean.

Our parents, who have always spoiled Samuel rotten, jump in to back him up.
