Regret Consumes Them

Talia's sister Elara is dying of kidney failure, and their family has already sold its land to pay for dialysis. Their father hauls bricks; her fiancé Chris works three jobs. When the family learns Talia is a perfect match and demands she donate a kidney, she coldly refuses, is slapped by her father, and moves into a damp sub-basement room five hundred meters from the organ donation center.

Only Talia knows she is hiding her own diagnosis of acute leukemia, APL M3. Treatment costs money the family does not have; a transplant for Elara costs fifty thousand. If Talia seeks treatment, Elara dies. So Talia plays the heartless sister, demanding fifty thousand dollars for her kidney, blocking Chris's calls, and concealing her bruises and nosebleeds with makeup and powder.

Chris throws his wedding savings at her and ends their engagement. Alone, Talia saves every dollar she can, waiting to die close enough that her kidney might still reach Elara in time.
