Story
The story
Three months after her mother vanished, Avery discovers an involuntary psychiatric hold application in her husband Julian's study — with her own name on it. Following the address, she finds her "missing" mother calmly peeling apples for her adopted sister Chloe, coaching Julian to keep Avery dependent until she accepts that Chloe is carrying his child. The disappearance was staged all along.
Instead of confronting them, Avery signs divorce papers and offers to step aside. Julian tears them up, refusing to believe her sudden calm, while Chloe sobs and threatens herself with a knife. But when Avery tries to file, the courthouse reveals she was never legally married — the license from five years ago bears Chloe's name, not hers. Every document her mother once promised to handle was a lie.
With her marriage exposed as a fraud, Avery must decide what remains hers to claim.
