Story

The story

When her father goes bankrupt, Harper Lee is sent to the Thorne estate as collateral, only to be claimed by Julian Thorne, the family's snake-obsessed third son. He buys three years of her company by wiping out five million dollars of debt, and she moves into his villa, where every room but his own is filled with serpents.

Harper endures Julian's cold pets and his unsettling attention, and over three years she grows used to a life of diamonds and luxury as his acknowledged favorite. Then a new debt girl arrives at the estate, and Julian kills his beloved snake before her eyes, leaving Harper to read the blood on the floor as a warning.

With her contract finished and a barely showing baby bump hidden beneath her clothes, Harper must decide what she is to Julian now that another woman has taken her place.

Opening excerpt

The man who picked me was the third son, Julian Thorne—a man with a notorious obsession with snakes.

Every night, he would bring a cold, slithering reptile into our bedroom. He’d let it coil around my ankles, ignoring my tears, refusing to take it away.
