Story
The story
Anna was once the treasured daughter of her parents, the child they prayed for through years of treatment. Her father flew her to the coast to see the ocean; her mother sewed her princess dresses. Then her little brother Asher was born with severe asthma, and the family's love turned to fear and blame.
When Anna lights an aromatherapy candle to help Asher sleep, her mother slaps her and locks her in the soundproofed basement home theater, a sealed room with no ventilation. As the air runs out, Anna calls her father on her smartwatch, but he refuses to believe her and hangs up. Alone in the dark, she claws at the door until she loses consciousness.
Now a ghost invisible to her family, Anna watches her parents return from the hospital, blaming her for Asher's attack and debating whether to finally let her out.
Opening excerpt
I was the daughter my parents prayed for after three years of bitter medicinal treatments. They once treasured me like a precious jewel.
When I casually mentioned wanting to see the ocean, Dad immediately bought plane tickets and flew me to the coast. Mom hand-sewed princess dresses for me, saying I was heaven's greatest gift to her.
Later, Mom unexpectedly gave birth to my little brother.
She kissed my forehead and said love wouldn't diminish—it would only grow, with one more person to protect me.
