Story

The story

On her wedding day, Yuna Auclair is left at the altar when her fiancé Gabriel Klutz runs back to his ex, Sabina Horne. Then Gabriel's best friend Jacob proposes on the spot, and Yuna believes she has found her person.

But after the wedding, Jacob turns hot and cold. A homemade lunch she wakes at five to make ends up with his secretary Linda; a promised island trip leaves her alone at the airport; he comes home reeking of perfume, clinging to Linda. In his study she finds a pink diary titled Forgive Him Seventy-Seven Times, in Sabina's handwriting, listing seventy-seven ways to hurt her. Synced messages confirm Jacob is checking off the list to win Sabina back.

At a party, Sabina wears the same red dress, and Jacob takes her side. When Sabina appears at the house, Yuna shoves her, and Jacob carries Sabina out, telling Yuna to think about what she has done. Yuna plans to leave Caldora for her parents in Norvane in three days.

Opening excerpt

On my wedding day, my fiancé bailed. Sabina—his ex—had sent him a diary listing 77 things she'd done for him. Turns out she only dumped him because his family pushed her to. So, he ran back to her.

While I was still reeling, Jacob—my fiancé's best friend—showed up. He got down on one knee, flashed a ring he'd clearly had ready, and said, "Yuna Auclair, I've liked you for a long time. Will you marry me?"

I thought he was my person.
