Story

The story

Andrew has married Teresa Sloan nine times, and nine times she has divorced him to return to her first love, Hansel Carter. Through each divorce he has begged, raged and finally learned to pack her bags in silence, while Teresa always promises they will remarry within a month.

This time is different. After finding Hansel's message saying he is coming home, Andrew signs the papers without a word and packs his own bags, planning to leave Yelby for good in one month. Teresa still promises they will remarry, unaware that his flight out of the country is booked for that very day.

As the weeks pass, Andrew settles into his mother's old apartment, gives away the watch Teresa gave him, and keeps his plans to himself. Then Teresa begins turning up where he least expects her.

Opening excerpt

I marry the same woman nine times, and she divorces me nine times for her first love.

During our first divorce, I snap and throw all her luggage out of the house.

By the fourth, I'm begging her to leave her bags behind, terrified that once she walks out, she'll never come back.
