Story

The story

Three years after Vera ended things with Asher Vance, his socialite mother tracks her down at the same café where she once threw a check in Vera's face. Now she begs Vera to save her son, who has become a degenerate heir. Vera agrees, but on her own terms: her stay depends on the price. With five million dollars wired, she walks into the club where Asher holds court among sycophants and girls.

Asher sneers, demanding she kneel and beg. Vera slaps him hard. Strange text scrolls before her eyes, mocking her as a doomed side character and praising Claire, the sweet heroine. The room falls silent, and Asher grits out an apology.

They have forgotten that three years ago, Vera trained this young master to be her most obedient dog.
