Story

The story

On New Year's Eve, a delivery rider accepts a strange, high-paying order: wear a black hoodie, avoid company gear, and knock at midnight sharp. In his past life, he did exactly that and walked into a murder scene. The evidence pointed to him, and the victim's grieving family stabbed him dead before he could explain. Now he has woken up hours before that night, back at the dispatch desk, with the same order in front of him.

His manager, Dominic Flint, pressures him to take it, warning of a hundred-thousand-dollar penalty and dangling four thousand dollars in pay. Then his girlfriend Harper calls in terror: loan sharks are breaking down her door over a fifty-thousand-dollar debt. Refusing the delivery could cost Harper her safety; accepting it means stepping back into the trap that killed him.

He takes the money and the black outfit, but a voice-altered caller demands to know why he has not left yet. The address is an isolated resort, and midnight is closing in.

Opening excerpt

Blinded by the incredible payout, I took the order without a second thought.

However, the moment I arrived at the destination, I was dragged into a horrific murder scene.

Panicked, I immediately dialed 911, but as the police investigation unfolded, every single piece of evidence pointed directly at me as the killer.

Surveillance footage showed that I was the only person who had entered the victim's room that night.
