Infant Paintings

In a shabby house in a mountain village, a grandmother known as Madam Albright paints only one subject: infants. The paintings are ugly, yet wealthy clients pay enormous sums and line up for them. When a customer arrives, she takes a woman into an unlit room, and bloodcurdling screams follow. The women always emerge smiling and thank her.

Her granddaughter, who has lived with her for years, finally glimpses the truth when an infant crawls out of one of the women's bellies, looking exactly like the painted child. Now an adult, the granddaughter watches as Madam Albright refuses to teach her the craft, instead hiring young women as apprentices and dismissing them one after another. Only Beth Hoffman stays, and after entering the dark room she begins to change, slowly resembling the old woman.

As the requests grow stranger and the payments larger, the granddaughter begins to question why they never leave the mountain village, and what her grandmother truly paints.
