The story

After five years in prison for protecting her fiancé Logan from his abusive father, Chloe walks free expecting him to keep his promise to marry her. Instead, he has married her best friend Tiffany, and they have a son, Leo, who is almost six—meaning Tiffany was already pregnant when Chloe was sentenced. Logan coldly asks her to transfer the deed of her apartment to him and offers cash to send her away.

Dusk fell, and darkness swallowed the streets. Logan never showed up, and his phone went straight to voicemail.

When I finally took a cab to my own apartment and knocked on the door, Logan opened it, his face frozen in pure shock.

"Chloe? What are you doing here?"

I took a step forward, wanting to hug him, but he blocked the doorway with his arm.

He hesitated, shifting uncomfortably under my gaze.
