Story

The story

Zoe is high maintenance, and everyone says so. Her boyfriend, Adrian Sterling, is mature, steady and endlessly tolerant — in person, a serious, rigorous man his employees call "The Ice Reaper." Online, he is someone else entirely, posting love-struck tributes about her that she never sees, and hiding them from her so he can post even more. His friends blame her for the public displays of affection; his business partners read them too.

After a year of avoiding work, Zoe takes a job at a gaming company run by Jax, Adrian's best friend and the person who most wants them apart. She joins the Game Design department under a friendly mentor, Cole, and finally feels happy — until an email transfers her to the CEO's Office. Adrian calls Jax to ask why. Jax accuses him of micromanaging her life.

Zoe agrees to the transfer, as long as it is normal work and not Adrian meddling. But the question of what he arranged, and why he puts her on a pedestal, stays open.

So, at dinner, I peeled a shrimp for him.
