The Price of a Washing Machine: A Daughter's Rebellion

A daughter spends $600 of her hard-earned project bonus on a new washing machine for her parents, replacing a machine over a decade old that had nearly thrown her mother's back out. But when her mother comes home from Zumba, she is furious that the old washer was sold for ten dollars without permission, and the joy of the gift curdles into accusation.

Days later, the new machine is blamed for soaking wet sheets and clumped detergent, though the mother stubbornly insists on the 15-minute Quick Wash cycle her other daughter, Chloe, recommends. The real grievance surfaces: in this house, everything eventually belongs to Chloe, from the ten dollars to the tea set their grandfather left behind.

When the daughter calls the junk hauler, Frank, to buy the old washer back for twenty dollars, she makes a quiet, startling stand against a lifetime of being the obedient one.
