Story
The story
Three years into their marriage, Serena discovers that her husband Arthur, who married into her family and depends on her wealth, has been secretly spending money on a college girl. Confronted with hotel receipts, Arthur weeps and claims he suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder, insisting his other personality is the one who betrayed her. Serena pretends to believe him completely.
When she turns the tables and picks out a handsome college boy of her own, Arthur is furious that she would cheat while they are still married. Serena calmly produces a medical report and explains that she, too, has developed DID, and that her other personality simply needed comfort.
As Arthur flaunts his young assistant Chloe and humiliates Serena, she must decide how far she will go to reclaim her dignity and her marriage.
Opening excerpt
I stared at the hotel receipts Arthur had racked up.
He held his head in his hands and cried hysterically, claiming he had developed Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).
"Serena, I didn't cheat on you! The one who cheated is my other personality!
"If I ever do anything to betray you again, I'll kill myself."
Faced with his pathetic, desperate lie, I pretended to believe him completely.
But when I turned around and picked out a handsome college boy for myself, Arthur was furious.
