Story

The story

Chloe has spent her life as the shadow of her older brother, Tyler, the golden child of the wealthy Shen family. Adopted as a girl, she learned early to obey Tyler in everything, and now she runs his errands, covers his lies and finishes his homework, all to keep her place in the house. Then Tyler tells her their new brother is arriving, and that they must put him in his place.

Sebastian is the family's biological son, switched at birth, and he has spent seventeen years in poverty while Tyler enjoyed the life that should have been his. When he comes home, their mother fusses over Tyler and leaves Sebastian with nothing but a plate of spinach. Chloe sees floating text predicting that Sebastian will one day ruin them both, leaving her and Tyler on the streets.

Terrified of that future, Chloe abandons her old role and throws herself at Sebastian with a sugary smile, determined to win him over before it is too late.

Since I was little, I’ve been like a shadow, trailing behind my older brother, Tyler.

To the outside world, we were the enviable siblings of the wealthy Shen family, raised in the lap of luxury. Our birthdays were lavish garden parties at our estate, the kind people posted about on Instagram for weeks.

Tyler was the undisputed king of our social circle. Handsome, athletic, a piano prodigy, and effortlessly cool. He was every girl’s crush and every parent’s benchmark for "the perfect son."

And me? I was his personal assistant disguised as a sister.
