Story

The story

A woman with a naturally cold constitution orders an incubus online to keep her warm through the winter, choosing a gentle, well-behaved model from a steeply discounted shop. When the delivery arrives, however, two incubi stand at her door: the white-eared Eli she chose, and a black-eared, wheat-skinned stranger with a wild, untameable air.

Customer service cheerfully explains that she has unlocked a hidden variant—buy one, get one free—and refuses to take either back. Now bound by contract to both, she must feed and care for two very different companions, one obedient and one unpredictable.

What began as a bargain soon looks far more demanding than she bargained for.

Opening excerpt

I ordered an incubus online, but when the package arrived, there were two of them. One was gentle and obedient, the other was hot-tempered and unpredictable.

I immediately messaged customer service to ask if they'd sent the wrong one—I had only ordered the gentle kind.

The reply came cheerfully. "Congratulations, you've unlocked the hidden variant!
