The Brother My Ghost Dad Picked

After a fall from her bike, Sloane Miller begins hearing her late father's voice again. He warns her that Garrett Pierce, the boy she has adored for years, is about to fake amnesia to manipulate her, just as he did in a past life when he left her to burn in a fire. When her mother, Base Commander Eliza Miller, asks her to choose a brother from the children of fallen service members, Sloane ignores Garrett and points to Miles Thompson, the boy who always glares at her yet quietly left her water after dance practice.

Garrett and his guardian Aunt Carol try to interfere, but Sloane holds firm. Outside, Garrett, Zack and Ryan assume she picked Garrett, and Brooke Reed's scooter knocks Sloane down. Garrett comforts Brooke and tells Sloane not to make a scene, so Sloane shoves Brooke and then Garrett, standing up for herself as her father taught her.

The official announcement is two days away, and Sloane waits to see Garrett's face when he learns she did not choose him.
