Story

The story

On her twentieth wedding anniversary, Claire opens her door to her husband James's intern, a girl barely out of her teens who declares that James only learned what true love was after meeting her. When Claire asks him to fire her, he calls her unreasonable; her own daughter Jenna sides against her, and the girl, Heather, turns up in her living room, draped over James.

Claire has weathered his past flirtations, but Heather is pregnant, and James has moved her into the first apartment he and Claire ever shared. She contacts the city's best divorce attorney, and James, wild-eyed, accuses her of hiring her ex-boyfriend. Family and friends press her to stay for the money, and her father strikes her for wanting out at forty.

Still, Claire keeps gathering her documents, asking whether a marriage can be saved once it has become trash.
