Story

The story

Right after the final AP exams, a reporter interviews the first student out of the testing center. Carter Hayes, the handsome genius from Class 2, smiles and says the questions weren't too hard. Behind him walks Riley, pale, clutching her stomach and wiping away tears. The screenshot becomes a viral meme: the smiling valedictorian and the crying slacker. Online, everyone assumes Riley bombed the exams.

Riley had planned to meet Ethan Cole, who promised they would start dating once finals ended. Instead, she finds him kissing her desk-mate, Hailey Morgan. Ethan claims Hailey kissed him while drunk at the wrap party, and that he was only returning the kiss for her closure. Then he chases after Hailey, leaving Riley alone.

Her best friend Savannah Mitchell arrives in tears, convinced Riley failed. But Riley insists she finished every answer. A rumor Hailey spread at the party says otherwise, and the whole school now pities her.
