On Graduation Eve, I Lost My Girlfriend

On the eve of graduation, Caspian Abbott learns that his girlfriend of four years, Naomi Walker, has been quietly sending her living-expense money to Luca Brown, a low-income student she once wronged as student council president. When he confronts her, she admits she pities Luca, and the four years they shared seem to matter less to her than that guilt.

At the graduation ceremony, Naomi's roommate Ava Jackson rushes over with news that Luca has swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills after hearing Naomi plans to marry Caspian. Naomi drops her degree and runs, ignoring Caspian's warning that if she leaves she should not come back. Their families watch the engagement celebration collapse into chaos.

At the hospital, Naomi sits holding Luca's hand, insisting he could have died and that Caspian should be understanding. Yet a friend who works there tells Caspian the truth about what Luca actually took. Caspian's hands have been shaking all along.
