The Charity Trap

Quinn Sterling pays out of pocket to open a subsidized food counter in her school cafeteria, offering low-income students an entrée, two sides, and a soup for one dollar. When scholarship student Lily smashes her tray and livestreams the scene, calling the slow-cooked braised pork pig slop, Mrs. Higgins, the lunch lady, is left trembling and in tears.

Quinn is branded a fake humanitarian. Her photo is turned into a funeral portrait, her name trends under #FakePhilanthropist, and students she once helped—including Brandon, whose tuition she covered for three years—join the mob. The Dean's Office demands she explain the negative publicity, and her father's company stock takes a hit.

Cornered, Quinn stops playing the victim. She warns Lily that the whole truth will come out at a press conference in the cafeteria in three days, and quietly orders an investigation into everyone leading the charge.
