Story
The story
Ten years ago, Andrea Atwood's mother, a maid for the Harrington family, died shielding Liam Harrington during a home invasion. Liam took Andrea's hand and promised to protect her forever. She believed him, and they built a life together with their daughter, Millie.
When Millie is diagnosed with leukemia, her one wish is to spend a birthday with her father. Andrea calls Liam, but he accuses her of using their dying daughter for pity and chooses a trip with Vivian Beech instead. That night, Millie passes away. Vivian posts about their couples' trip, and Andrea texts Liam that they are done.
After the funeral, Andrea sells everything Liam gave her and brings him the cash. He sneers, refusing to believe Millie is gone, while Vivian stands beside him. Andrea walks away, finally seeing the truth she had ignored for years.
Opening excerpt
Holding my hands tight, Liam promised, "Andrea, don't worry. I'll protect you forever."
I believed him. Our bond grew naturally, and we had a beautiful daughter together.
Then, she was diagnosed with leukemia.
In her last days, all she wanted was to spend one birthday with her dad.
I called him, desperate to make it happen.
"Millie doesn't have much time left. All she wants is one birthday with you. Can you come?"
