The Rental Girlfriend

Every holiday, a young woman is lent out by her boyfriend Carter Sterling to his single friends, who use her as a fake date to deflect their families' pressure to marry. The dinners are cruel: some families sneer at her working-class roots and throw food at her, others see through the act and cast her into the cold. Carter coaxes her through each humiliation with promises that they will marry once she does this one last favor, and for five years she spends no holiday with him.

This Thanksgiving she is slapped and humiliated again, and overhears Carter admit he sends her away so he can bring Chloe home instead. At the Vance estate she is given a million-dollar emerald heirloom meant only for a future daughter-in-law, and she quietly keeps it. Returning home, she finds Carter and his friends betting on whether she was hurt, and Chloe accusing her of theft.

When Carter takes the bracelet back and mocks her, Julian Vance sends medicine to her lobby, and Carter's jealousy turns violent. The mockery and the medicine collide, leaving her to decide what she will finally accept.
