End of Contract, So Long

On their third anniversary, Adonis Kent tells Claire Monroe he is going to be single again. His secretary, Bonnie Spencer, hands her a girlfriend evaluation form: Claire has failed to score ninety points, and anything below that benchmark eliminates her as a suitable girlfriend candidate. The form, designed by Bonnie, lists more than a hundred requirements, from keeping her weight under ninety pounds to replying to texts within three seconds. When Claire questions the list, Adonis defends Bonnie and demands an apology for offending her.

Claire walks out of the private room without turning back, while Adonis assures his friends she will soon come crawling back. What he does not know is that her devotion was never real: four years ago, Gerald Kent, an elder in the family, offered her a contract to pose as Adonis's girlfriend and keep him from his antics, at ten million dollars a year. With the mission complete, Claire calls Gerald to ask when the final payment will be settled.
