Story

The story

Late one night, Jason tearfully tells his wife Chloe that his mother has been rushed to hospital and that $40,000 is needed at once. He refuses to let her come along, so she hands over her bank card. The next day she slips into the hospital and overhears her mother-in-law praising his scheme: the money is theirs to spend, and Chloe is the family ATM. Silently, she calls the bank and reports the card stolen.

When Jason finds the card frozen, he summons her to the bank. There she plays the panicked wife, weeping over lost life-saving money until the watching crowd turns on him. Back home, his patience snaps, but she has already begun to hold the knife.

A marriage built on a lie is about to be paid back in full.

Opening excerpt

Late at night, my husband cried bitterly: "Mom was suddenly hospitalized, the doctor said we need $40,000 immediately! Transfer the money now!"

"I'll go to the hospital right now!" I was worried sick.

"No! You'll just cause trouble. I can handle it alone." He stopped me.

Feeling sorry for my father-in-law, I gave him my bank card immediately.
