Story
The story
At the Royal Spring Hunt, Crown Prince Adrian struck an orphan girl named Lina with a single arrow, and declared he would make her his princess. There was one problem: he was already betrothed to Elara of House Stanley, the Queen's niece. Adrian came to Stanley Manor to break the engagement himself, insisting Lina's honor was compromised by his hand and that he alone must marry her. On Elara's birthday, before a hall of guests, he demanded she release him and choose another husband, then departed with Lina, leaving scandal in his wake.
Elara retrieved the betrothal contract and freed them both, refusing to fight for a man. The Queen, who raised Adrian as her own despite his lowly birth, summoned Elara and vowed the position of Crown Princess would remain hers. The King raged at Adrian for casting away House Stanley's backing. Yet Adrian brought Lina before the Queen, pleading for the right to marry the woman he adores, and the Queen's disappointment hardened.
Opening excerpt
It all began at the Royal Spring Hunt. That was where Crown Prince Adrian, with a single arrow, struck an orphan girl.
She was Lina, the niece of his biological mother—a woman whose name was a dark whisper in the palace, a stain on his royal lineage. Adrian was instantly smitten. He declared on the spot that he would make her his princess.
