Story
The story
On the first day of their honeymoon, Linda hauls three suitcases alone through a crowded airport terminal while her husband Josh walks ahead, shielding Brooke, the childhood friend whose fragile health has always dictated their lives. When Linda falls, neither of them looks back.
At the gate, Josh reveals the trip has been rerouted from Maui's beaches to a snowy resort in Aspen, because Brooke wanted to see snow. It is only the latest sacrifice: her dream wedding became a tiny chapel, her marital home gained a spare-room tenant, and every boundary she asked for was brushed aside. When Brooke calls Josh "Noley" and asks him to zip her dress, Linda finally understands where she stands.
She walks away from the airport, her job, and the marriage certificate still unsigned — but the question of what she will become now hangs unanswered.

On our honeymoon's first day, I dragged three massive suitcases alone through the crowded terminal. Josh walked ahead, arm wrapped around Brooke's shoulders, shielding her from the rush. "Hurry up, Linda. You know Brooke is fragile. I can't let her stay in this crowd." Before I could reply, a heavyset man slammed into me. I hit the floor, luggage crashing down. Sharp pain flared across my knees and shins. Looking up, neither of them had bothered to look back.
