Story
The story
Emma has spent everything on the Silent Boy she loves. Her boyfriend Declan cannot speak, and only one surgery in the world can cure him, at a price of a million dollars. She sells the house her parents left her, pawns her jewelry and works five jobs a month, saving every penny so she can one day hear his voice.
Then, at work, she overhears Declan speaking in a chilling voice: one line was all it took to make a woman spend a million on him. The fruit platter shatters on the floor. Declan is not mute. He offers her two million dollars to make it up. Then Celeste appears, clinging to his arm and kissing his cheek, and reveals the truth: Declan chased her, and she promised to be with him if he could play Emma like a fool, pretending to be mute.
Celeste mocks Emma for never forgetting Jasper, the one clean, kind person in her life who disappeared. Emma slaps Declan and swears she will never forgive him.
Opening excerpt
I've been saving every penny, working tirelessly to pay for it, and I was almost there. But one day at work, I overheard him speaking with a chilling voice:
"Just one line to get a woman to spend a million dollars on me, and I've won my challenge."
"Crash!"
The fruit platter I was holding slipped from my hands, shattering on the floor.
