Story
The story
Harper wins a $50 million lottery jackpot and begs her best friend Madison to keep the secret from her family. Madison promises, then tells Harper's brother Jackson, who demands the money for a house and a wife. When Harper refuses, her family weaponizes a live stream to unleash a cyberbullying mob, then locks her away, starves her, and bricks her corpse into the walls of their new home. She wakes on the day the winning numbers are drawn, back in her college dorm, with Madison smiling and asking whether she won.
This time Harper hides the ticket, claims she threw it away, and refuses to room with Madison. She claims the prize in secret, gives $10 million to charity, and spreads the rest across several accounts, while feeding Madison a story about Jackson's sudden tech job and luxury car. But Madison keeps digging, even asking the gas station owner to describe the winner.
As Madison leans in with a chilling smile, Harper must decide how far her old friend will go to claim a fortune she believes should have been hers.
Opening excerpt
I won a $50 million lottery jackpot, and I begged my best friend not to tell my family.
She smiled and promised she wouldn't, but the second I turned my back, she told my older brother.
My brother demanded I give him the money to buy a house and get a wife.
When I refused, my family emotionally blackmailed me and used a live stream to whip up a cyberbullying mob against me.
