Love Wanders Between First Love and Current Love

Elodie is three months pregnant, and her husband Kris Blanchard is supposed to take her for a check-up. Instead, a call from his old love Fern Robbins sends him driving off to her son, leaving Elodie stranded on an icy road in the snow. She slips and falls, and a stranger takes her to the hospital, where she learns her baby is safe. Kris never answers her calls, yet picks up for Fern at once.

At home, Kris brushes off her hurt, insisting Fern has no one else since her divorce and that helping her is simply kindness. Then Elodie finds his phone: the lock screen code is the day Fern returned, and Fern's son calls him Daddy. When Kris shoves her down and rushes out to read the boy a bedtime story, Elodie tells him it means divorce. He laughs it off and leaves anyway.

Alone with a sprained ankle, Elodie schedules an abortion for the next morning, determined to take control of her own life. Kris does not come home that night.
