Story
The story
On the Isle of Lyra, a young Seer Sister named Gemma Sterling is drugged by Duke Julian Thorne, who claims he was captivated by her at first sight. Stripped of her vows, she becomes his Duchess of Ashworth, enduring the Hundred and Eight Sacred Trials as penance and believing his promises of devotion.
Three years later, Julian is found in a disreputable establishment and declares that a former nun is uninspired in bed. He brings Melody Sinclair into the manor as his equal wife, and whispers reveal that Gemma was only ever a stand-in for Melody, who bears an uncanny resemblance to her. When a fire in the chapel scars Melody's face, Julian seizes Gemma, pierces her palm with his longsword, snaps her wrist, strips her of her rank, and elevates Melody in her place.
But Gemma has quietly called out to her aunt Bea, and a message from the Isle of Lyra promises that in seven days she will become the new Oracle.
