Story

The story

When the call comes that her husband David has died in another woman's bed, Serena feels no grief. At the hotel, his young girlfriend Chloe trembles before the police, while relatives curse David for dying in shame. Only Serena stays calm, covering his body with a blanket. Then David's ghost appears beside her, begging her to protect Chloe from the furious crowd and offering to reveal where he hid his bank card for their son Leo. Serena can see ghosts, but she refuses to answer him.

Half a month earlier, Chloe had come to demand a divorce. For years Serena endured David's affairs, once even seeking a lawyer, until his family threatened her with Leo. Now, as relatives weep and Chloe sobs, Serena feels like playing celebratory music. She calls Daniel Anderson, her first love, to bring Leo to the funeral home, and David's ghost rages jealously at every word.

When Leo asks what happened to his father, Serena tells him the truth without softening it.

Opening excerpt

When I got the call, my first reaction was pure disbelief.

It wasn't until they clearly stated my husband's name and age that I rushed over to deal with his remains.

Everyone around cried and cursed him for being a heartless man, but I calmly covered him with a blanket.

David's ghost hovered beside me, asking, "How come you're not angry at all?"

When I arrived at the hotel, the small room was already packed with people.

Chloe, David's young girlfriend, was trembling as she answered the police's questions.
