Story

The story

Luke Davis was once the youngest law professor in his field, married to his childhood sweetheart, the lawyer Daisy Reid. Their life together seemed perfect until his mother took their son, Caleb, out and a drunk driver, James Benton, killed her.

In court, Daisy appears as James's defense attorney, and ten-year-old Caleb testifies that his grandmother staged the accident. James is acquitted, and Luke is ordered to compensate him. When Luke uncovers an autopsy report suggesting murder, Daisy destroys the evidence and has his mother's body cremated, declaring that James is where she draws the line.

Left with an urn, online abuse, and a son who calls him selfish, Luke is determined to make James pay.

Opening excerpt

At the height of my career, I became the youngest law professor in the field and married my childhood sweetheart, Daisy Reid.

We were known as the "golden couple of the legal world," and in the eyes of many, we were the perfect loving couple.

In the tenth year of our marriage, my mother took my son, Caleb Davis, out, and they were involved in a car accident.

The driver had been speeding while intoxicated.
